The Smith-Magenis Research Foundation

The Smith-Magenis Research Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in June 2010 by two mothers of daughters diagnosed with SMS. Like Damian's parents, Stephen and Hoang Wood of West Hartford, the two spent countless hours navigating their way through the unknown world of SMS. Individually they ventured out into their communities speaking to physicians, therapists, behaviorists and school personnel who knew little to nothing about Smith-Magenis Syndrome. And while some key research discoveries had been made with regards to the SMS genotype, there were still too many questions left unanswered, primarily because SMS research is vastly underfunded. The Smith-Magenis Research Foundation is the vision of two families who are passionate about finding those missing answers with the belief that the prognosis of Smith-Magenis Syndrome can be redefined so that every individual with SMS can experience an improved quality of life. Stephen is a proud board member of the SMSRF.

The Wood family strongly believes in the Smith-Magenis Research Foundation's mission and look forward to the fundraiser!
